Increasing the dialogue among stakeholders in New Jersey’s special education system

Capitol Icon - From the CapitolsGovernor Phil Murphy has signed legislation (P.L.2021, c.279) that establishes an alternate route to expedite the certification of teachers at early college high school programs. An early college high school program is a partnership between a school district and an institution of higher education that allows participants to simultaneously complete requirements toward earning a State-endorsed high school diploma and have the opportunity to earn credits that are transferable to the institution of higher education in the partnership as part of an organized course of study toward a postsecondary degree at no cost to the participant or participant’s family. Teachers at such programs would have to hold an advanced degree, have teaching experience and have passed the appropriate PRAXIS test. The bill (S.3253) was sponsored by Senator Troy Singleton (D-7).
