Increasing the dialogue among stakeholders in New Jersey’s special education system
  1. As of October 2024, New Jersey reported 242,001 students with IEPs, or 17.35% of students.
  2. 6.98% of New Jersey students with disabilities were parentally placed in private schools in 2024, compared with 1.71% nationwide in the 2022–23 school year.
  3. In New Jersey in 2024, 45.04% of students with disabilities spent 80% or more of the school day in general education classes, while 15.07% of students with disabilities spent less than 40% of the school day in general education classes.
  4. Nationwide in the 2022–23 school year, 67.09% of students with disabilities spent 80% or more of the school day in general education classes, while 12.54% spent less than 40% of the school day in general education classes.
