Increasing the dialogue among stakeholders in New Jersey’s special education system
  1. According to the National Center for Learning Disabilities (NCLD), one in five students (11.2M) in the US have learning and attention issues.

According to the National Center for Learning Disabilities, students with learning disabilities are three times more likely to drop out of school than their peers without disabilities. 68% of students with learning disabilities graduate from high school, compared to 81% of students without disabilities.
  3. Up to 80% of those on the autism spectrum may also have learning disabilities.
  4. Children from low income families are more likely to be diagnosed with a learning disability than those from higher income families.
  5. Research shows that boys are more likely than girls to be diagnosed with a reading or writing disability.
  6. In 2015, only 3 percent of Black and Hispanic 12th grade students with disabilities showed proficiency in reading.
  7. Dyslexia is the most common reading disability.
