Increasing the dialogue among stakeholders in New Jersey’s special education system

The Board of Education in each of New Jersey’s 613 local school districts sets policy and governance and helps with long-term planning and goal setting. Running for a seat on the school board is a smart way to bring your leadership and perspective to a larger stage and make a lasting impact in your community.

The New Jersey School Boards Association has produced a video series called, “Ten Things Every School Board Candidate Should Know Before Taking Office.” It includes valuable information for school board candidates. Topics include the Board Member Code of Ethics, criminal history record checks for newly elected board members, the Sunshine Law, the school board’s role as a policy-making body, mandated training, and professional development.
