President Joe Biden has selected Glenna Gallo to serve as assistant secretary for special education and rehabilitative services at the U.S. Department of Education. She will need confirmation by the U.S. Senate to officially serve as the assistant secretary. Gallo brings more than 25 years of experience in the field of special education. Currently, she serves as the assistant superintendent of special education in Washington state, where she has prioritized increased funding for special education. She has also served twice as the president of the National Association of State Directors of Special Education (NASDSE), which praised her nomination as “an exceptional choice.”
