Increasing the dialogue among stakeholders in New Jersey’s special education system

Capitol Icon - From the CapitolsA new law will allow a college student enrolled in an institution of higher education who has completed 30 semester hour credits to be a substitute teacher in New Jersey, cutting in half the number of credits needed to apply for a substitute credential. The measure, sponsored by Senator Teresa Ruiz and others (S.2832) was signed by the governor last spring (P.L.2021, c.87) It will help address the teacher shortage facing schools across New Jersey and the nation.
